Why do people think that if everyone doest buy gas for a day or 2 theyll lower prices?

why are people so dumb? they think if we dont buy gas for a day or two they drop prices, so they set a date and everyone hears about it and thinks "good idea!" so they go the day before set date a fill there tanks up so they'll have gas for these gas price boycotts? oil company still making money because they go and fill there tanks up all the way the day before? theres really nothing we can do to get them to lower the price of gas
