What does this mean? (excerpt from book)?

It means that she is saying that the guy probably doesn't really LOVE her, that since she is an heir,she likely going to inherit some money and that is the only interest he has in her. OR, since I haven't read the book, it could also mean that he only pretends to LOVE her because he wants to have a child from her, who would then be his " heir." ( Like the Charles and Diana situation) . It could mean either scenario , but I guess you would know better than me which is more appropriate.
