Laptop Acper Vista - No operating system found!?

my stupid mother spilt a whole cup of coffee over her laptop, when loading it now says No operating system found!! it did have Vista Home Premium installed!!! Is the laptop totally wrecked or can I install a new OEM on it, I tryed to load XP onto it but says it was unable to install? Is there anyway I can fig it????
