Was the midterm shellacking a sign that the American people want Obama to work more or less with Republicans?

The latest election of the GOP in the House wasn't about working with or without the Republicans. This was a referendum on people being out of work, the budget deficit increasing, and the fact that there seems to be no real answer about the foreclosure rate still increasing. Compromise with the Republicans is a much different issue and it had nothing to do with the election results.
