How do i break up with a guy after 8 months when he still likes me?

My boyfriend and I have been together 8 months, and I want to break up with him, but I don't know how. It would be easy, except for the fact that he says he loves me, although I think he just likes having someone to say that he loves and to show off to his family. Still, I don't want to hurt him. Also, I'm afraid he'll do what he always does when I try to talk about our relationship, which is rearrange everything I say. He makes me sound stupid with what I say and rephrases what I say. He tries to make me think that I'm wrong to even have my own opinion and tries to convince me to see things from his side only. Plus it always ends with him just lecturing me like he's my dad or something. He won't even let me talk. Please help?
